About

MICHAEL HIGGINS

If you were to ask me what I do, I am bound to throw out the purposefully vague, “I am a writer.” That can mean many things. Copywriting is certainly a big part of it. My fascination with the written word, however, extends much further. Add my affinity for the visual side, and I can confidently say the more appropriate answer would be, “storyteller.”

What I appreciate about ADVERTISING is that, when done well, it’s a little slice of pop culture. The key is to not take it all too seriously and just try to connect with the consumer in a surprising way.

I appreciate DESIGN most when it elevates its subject far beyond a layout, logo, or object. Whether it’s graphic typography, a 30’s era movie poster, or my vintage Honda CB450 “BLACK BOMBER,” I’m inspired by clean, simplicity

I have a real love for PHOTOGRAPHY too, and the way the camera sees the world differently. A hobbyist turned semi-pro, I try to discover a unique point of view on something I find intriguing. On most occasions it finds me, always in awe of the camera’s uncanny ability for surprise.

The ESSAY is where my passion lies, showcasing where my thoughts take me when I am not confined by anything but my own discipline. Some have found their way to limited publication, while others have been modestly awarded in writing competitions.

The next story is still in the works…
